Book Cover

Skill level: Beginner–Intermediate

Technique: Double crochet clusters

Includes: Optional heart pocket

Customizable: Size & Color

Time: 2–5 hours (depending on experience)

– 2 colors of yarn

– Crochet hook matching your yarn

– Tapestry (cross-stitch) needle

– Scissors

– A book (for sizing)

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

tr – treble crochet

sl st – slip stitch

Heart Book Cover Pattern

Foundation Row

– Make a slipknot and chain a multiple of 3 until desired width, then add approximately 6 cm for ease.


Row 1

– Ch 5, skip 5 chains

– In the 6th chain, work 3 dc

– Skip 2 chains, work 3 dc in next chain

– Repeat across to the end


Row 2

– Turn, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc)

– Work 2 dc in the first gap

– Work 3 dc in each gap across

– Repeat to the end


Row 3 (Color Change)

– Turn, ch 4

– Work 3 dc in the first gap

– On the last yarn-over of the third dc, switch to pink yarn

– Continue working 3 dc in each gap across, alternating colors

– Make sure to finish the row with pink yarn

– Secure the white yarn


Row 4 (All Pink)

– Turn, ch 3

– Work 3 dc in each gap across using pink yarn

– Ch 1, cut yarn if changing color


🧶 Pattern Repeat

Suggested layout: (how i did)

  • 2 white rows
  • 1 heart/color row
  • 4 white rows
  • 1 heart/color row
  • Repeat
  • Finish with 3 white rows

Final Rows

– Ch 1, cut yarn, pull through

– Work along the foundation edge: 3 dc in each gap

– Fasten off and weave in ends


📚 Assembly (Book Cover Shape)

  1. Fold the piece around your book
  2. Create inner flaps by folding edges inward
  3. Secure folds using sc along top and bottom edges

🧵 Border

  1. Attach yarn to one edge
  2. Work sc evenly around (approx. 2 sc per row on sides)
  3. Ch 1, fasten off, weave in ends

🩷 Optional: Heart Granny Square Pocket

Heart

– Magic ring

– Ch 3, work: 3 tr, 4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc, 3 tr into ring

– Ch 3, sl st into center

– Tighten ring


Square Border

– Ch 1, sc around heart

– Work granny-style corners (3 dc per corner)

– Continue until desired size


Attach Pocket

  1. Sew square onto cover
  2. Leave the top open

✨ Finishing

Weave in all ends and adjust shape.
