🧶 Free Crochet Heart Pattern
HEART 1 — 2.5 cm (Small)
This first heart is super quick and easy – it takes about 2-5 minutes. It’s a great one to start with!
We begin with a magic ring. Make a slipknot, but don’t close it tight – leave the loop open. Hold the knot between your thumb and middle finger, yarn over, pull through, and chain 3 to secure the ring.
Now, working into the magic ring:
- 3 double crochets
- 3 single crochets
- Chain 1
- 1 double crochet
- Chain 1
- 3 single crochets
- 3 double crochets
- Chain 3
- Slip stitch into the magic ring
Now pull the yarn tail from the magic ring to close it up – watch it transform into a heart shape.
Chain 1, cut your yarn, pull through, and fasten off. Weave in your ends, and your tiny 2.5 cm heart is done!
HEART 2 — 3 cm (Medium)
This one is almost the same as the smaller heart, but we’re going one stitch size up – replacing double crochets with treble crochets, and single crochets with double crochets. That gives us a slightly bigger, 3 cm heart.
Start again with a magic ring – slipknot, hold the knot with your thumb and middle finger, yarn over, pull through, and chain 3 to secure.
Working into the magic ring:
- 3 treble crochets
- 3 double crochets
- Chain 1
- 1 treble crochet
- Chain 1
- 3 double crochets
- 3 treble crochets
- Chain 3
- Slip stitch into the magic ring
Pull the magic ring tail to close and shape your heart.
Chain 1, cut yarn, and fasten off. Weave in your ends, and your 3 cm heart is ready!
HEART 3 — 4 cm (Large / Keychain-Sized)
This is my favourite one – the biggest and the most beautiful. At 4 cm, it’s perfect for a keychain. I highly recommend trying this one!
Row 1 is the same as the 3 cm heart:
Start with a magic ring, hold the knot with your thumb and middle finger, yarn over, pull through, chain 3, then working into the ring:
- 3 treble crochets
- 3 double crochets
- Chain 1
- 1 treble crochet
- Chain 1
- 3 double crochets
- 3 treble crochets
- Chain 3
- Slip stitch into the magic ring
Pull the tail to close the ring and shape the heart.
Row 2 – this is what makes it bigger!
Slip stitch into each of the 3 chains from the start of Row 1 (slip stitch 1, slip stitch 2, slip stitch 3). Then into that last chain stitch, work 1 single crochet.
Now continue around the heart:
– Into the top of the 1st treble crochet: 2 single crochets in the same stitch
– Into the 2nd treble crochet: 2 single crochets in the same stitch
– 4 single crochets, one in each stitch, until you reach the chain-1 space from Row 1
– Chain 1, then 1 double crochet, then chain 1
– 4 single crochets, one in each stitch across the next section
– Into the 1st remaining treble crochet: 2 single crochets
– Into the 2nd remaining treble crochet: 2 single crochets
– Into the top of the 3rd chain: 1 single crochet
– 2 slip stitches into the next 2 chains
Slip stitch to join, chain 1, cut yarn, and fasten off. Weave in all your ends, and your 4 cm heart is finished!
And that’s it – three beautiful little crochet hearts in three different sizes! Whether you keep them as decorations, sew them onto a bag, or turn them into a keychain, they make the sweetest little handmade gift.
